The StudyTXT service is now not operational. We have decided to shut the service down and focus on other mobile delivery methods for learning. The StudyTXT project was an important landmark in the development of mLearning within New Zealand and this site is left up for information on the project. Peter Mellow. March 19, 2008
Can I use my Telecom cellphone?
StudyTXT works on both mobile networks in New Zealand. Telecom and Vodafone.
Will StudyTXT work in every subject area?
StudyTXT is not for every subject area and not for every student. However, it does offer another way to study and for some students this may be an easier way to focus on their subjects.
If I use StudyTXT, can I drop another way I currently study?
StudyTXT is not seen to be a replacement for traditional study methods and compliments these other methods. StudyTXT is one form of studying for your papers/subject. You still need to do a range of other study activities to be successful in your study. Sourcing resources from the library, Internet, textbooks and class sessions should be an integral part of your study plan.
Can I use TXT spelling when I write an essay or in an exam?
These text message flash cards contain abbreviations and txt spelling (eEnglish = electronic English) of common words to fit into the 150-character limit. Please remember in your assignments, essays and exams to spell out the words in their full form (use full formal language). The abbreviations used are explained on the menu for the messages on the web page, or the menu handed out by your lecturer/teacher.
Can I take my cellphone into an exam and use StudyTXT there?
StudyTXT is provided as a study aid only. Do not even consider taking your cell phone into an exam situation. Doing so could result in serious consequences.
Who wrote the StudyTXT messages?
The messages have been written by subject matter experts who are also teaching the material. They know what key points students need to study and often trip up on. They also have strategies to help students remember the key points so they can apply them.
To ensure quality control, all messages are also moderated by another subject matter expert and checked for accuracy and practical application in the subject field.
For legal reasons all messages are copyright of AUT, however the intellectual property of the content of the messages belongs to the writer/s.
They are for personal use only, on individual cell phones.
Can I forward the StudyTXT messages to my classmates?
Yes, we encourage co-operation and communication when it comes to study. You may forward them to other students who are studying the same paper/subject that you are.
