StudyTXT is a simple 'pull' cellphone service. Instead of pulling down a ring tone or a screen tattoo, you can download study tips in the form of text messages onto your cellphone. There are three easy steps to using StudyTXT.
The StudyTXT service is now not operational. We have decided to shut the service down and focus on other mobile delivery methods for learning. The StudyTXT project was an important landmark in the development of mLearning within New Zealand and this site is left up for information on the project. Peter Mellow. March 19, 2008
Step 1- Either use the message menu given to you by your lecturer or visit StudyTXT.com to see which of your papers is available. Look at the messages and decide which ones you want to study.

Step 2- TXT the message code to 396
E.g. “anatK1” for the Tibialis Anterior message.
Your cell phone account will be charged 0.50 cents for each individual message you download.
If you use the alpha code with no number after it, e.g. in the case shown above “anatK” you will receive ALL three messages in that group at a rate of 0.50 cents for the first message then ALL other messages at 0.30 cents per message. For example if there are 3 messages it will cost 0.50 cents + 2X 0.30 = $1.10 as opposed to $1.50 if you downloaded them individually.
Ways of reducing the cost here is to work in small study groups, download a few messages each, and then use your ‘free’ TXT message limit, or ‘free weekends’ to forward the StudyTXT to the others in the group.
Step 3- In a few moments you will receive the TXT message you ordered. Usually this is a very short time (15 seconds).
However, we have noted that when TXT traffic is heavy (weekends) there can be a delay of an hour or two. Just wait and give it some time.
There is nothing magical about StudyTXT. It is just a convenient version of traditional study notes. However, instead of having to carry any notes around you can store and use them from you cellphone. For StudyTXT to work, you have to review the key learning points on a regular basis, ideally many times a day.
So when you find yourself with some spare time and you are waiting around for something with not much to do, pull out your phone and do a quick review session with the StudyTXT messages you have stored on your phone.
Another way to achieve this is to set you alarm on your phone to go every hour and when it does, that is your reminder to look at your StudyTXT for that hour.
Another way to use StudyTXT is with a friend, one person holding the cell phone and quizzing the other on what the facts are.
If you find one StudyTXT message useful, forward it to a classmate to remind them to do some study. This swapping of messages will help you all keep focused on your studies.
Write your own StudyTXT messages and use them yourself and/or forward them to your friends. If you do this with a study group, you soon create a lot of valuable messages that can be shared within the group.
